Save The Date!!



Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a restful break.  This new semester if full of opportunities to explore Carmel Middle School and all it has to offer.  Below are some tentative dates you will want to mark on your calendar.   Please check your e-mail for notices from CMS as these dates get closer.


 CCS Parent Information Nights & Demo Concert
 You should have recently received an email from CCS regarding Parent Information Nights about Middle School programming and scheduling. There are three options to choose from, and you only need to attend one. Students are welcome to attend as well and check out a demonstration performance from band, choir and orchestra. The dates are as follows:
  • Clay MS - January 14th at 6:30pm in the Auditorium
  • Creekside MS - January 27th at 6:30pm in the Auditorium
  • Carmel MS - February 4th at 6:30pm in the Auditorium

An Activity Night is also scheduled.  This is an event for students only.  Students take a tour of our school, play games, learn more about our performing arts classes, enjoy pizza and a middle school basketball game. 

 Carmel Elementary and Cherry Tree – January 22nd from 3:45-5:45 PM
Mohawk Trails and Smoky Row – January 27th from 3:45-5:45 PM
Counselors will visit the elementary schools in the month of February to begin the scheduling process.  Counselors will provide information that will assist students in completing their class schedule on-line.  Parents will have the opportunity to view the student’s selected course requests on-line following these presentations.
Open House for Parents and Students will be held on April 22nd from 5:30-7:30. This is a great opportunity for the whole family to come in and tour our building, learn more about clubs and activities, and talk with key staff at Carmel Middle School. This is an informal event, come whenever fits in your schedule.

Today marks the end of the nine weeks.  Please look for your child's report card online next Friday.  I am very proud of their accomplishments and the growth they've made. Here are some of the highlights from this past week. Students researched a Native American cultural region and created a poster to share with the class. In reading, we are discussing and reading about the power of our Sun and electricity. We will learn how to make a solar oven later next week.  Ask your child about how to use a compass or protractor.  We have been measuring and constructing angles and polygons with these special math tools.    Our class rocked the unit 3 social studies test.  Check your child's folder for his/her test. Students recently published their personal narratives.  Our narratives are full of great sensory details, flashbacks, and strong conclusions.  Narratives will be sent home at the end of next week. MAP Testing FAQ

You have probably heard a lot about MAP testing these past few weeks from your child.  Fifth graders have spent three weeks taking a series of tests during their computer lab and media time.   This post is dedicated to answering some common questions you may have about MAP.  As always, if you have any further questions please contact me.  Thanks.
