2015 Flower Sale


 
The 2015 Carmel Elementary Flower Sale is in full swing! This is CE's largest fundraiser, a 30+ year tradition! We count on big proceeds from this sale to create new opportunities that directly benefit our students and our school. From Friday, March 6th through Monday, March 23rd, we will be collecting preorders and awarding daily prizes. Your student has received a packet of detailed information. Be sure to look it over together. Please consider helping your child participate to not only reap the rewards, but to feel the pride that is associated with being part of this incredible tradition.

Today marks the end of the nine weeks.  Please look for your child's report card online next Friday.  I am very proud of their accomplishments and the growth they've made. Here are some of the highlights from this past week. Students researched a Native American cultural region and created a poster to share with the class. In reading, we are discussing and reading about the power of our Sun and electricity. We will learn how to make a solar oven later next week.  Ask your child about how to use a compass or protractor.  We have been measuring and constructing angles and polygons with these special math tools.    Our class rocked the unit 3 social studies test.  Check your child's folder for his/her test. Students recently published their personal narratives.  Our narratives are full of great sensory details, flashbacks, and strong conclusions.  Narratives will be sent home at the end of next week. MAP Testing FAQ

You have probably heard a lot about MAP testing these past few weeks from your child.  Fifth graders have spent three weeks taking a series of tests during their computer lab and media time.   This post is dedicated to answering some common questions you may have about MAP.  As always, if you have any further questions please contact me.  Thanks. Mrs. L What is MAP? Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) is   a computerized adaptive test. The difficulty of the test is adjusted to the student’s performance based on how well the student has answered questions.    MAP measures a student’s progress and growth.    It shows how your child has grown from one year to the next in mathematics, reading, language usage, and science skills.
