Open House at Carmel Middle School



Please join Carmel Middle School faculty and students on Thursday, April 23rd from 5:30 to 7:30 for the annual Open House. This special event is specifically designed for fifth graders and their families. Entire families are welcome. During this time students will receive a tour of the building and information about school clubs and athletics. Administrators and counselors will also be available throughout the evening for any questions you may have about life at CMS.

Today marks the end of the nine weeks.  Please look for your child's report card online next Friday.  I am very proud of their accomplishments and the growth they've made. Here are some of the highlights from this past week. Students researched a Native American cultural region and created a poster to share with the class. In reading, we are discussing and reading about the power of our Sun and electricity. We will learn how to make a solar oven later next week.  Ask your child about how to use a compass or protractor.  We have been measuring and constructing angles and polygons with these special math tools.    Our class rocked the unit 3 social studies test.  Check your child's folder for his/her test. Students recently published their personal narratives.  Our narratives are full of great sensory details, flashbacks, and strong conclusions.  Narratives will be sent home at the end of next week. MAP Testing FAQ

You have probably heard a lot about MAP testing these past few weeks from your child.  Fifth graders have spent three weeks taking a series of tests during their computer lab and media time.   This post is dedicated to answering some common questions you may have about MAP.  As always, if you have any further questions please contact me.  Thanks. Mrs. L What is MAP? Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) is   a computerized adaptive test. The difficulty of the test is adjusted to the student’s performance based on how well the student has answered questions.    MAP measures a student’s progress and growth.    It shows how your child has grown from one year to the next in mathematics, reading, language usage, and science skills.
