Book Swap


 

Our second annual CES Book Swap will start next week.  Students can bring in up to five gently used books on Monday or Tuesday morning between 8-9:30.   Students will receive book credits (one credit for each paperback and two for each hardback).  Mrs. Williams, our media specialist, will give them a receipt and keep a record of the credits for Tuesday's swap.  Starting at 9:45 on Tuesday, students can come down to “spend” their credits on other books.   We hope you can participate in this fun literacy event.

Today marks the end of the nine weeks.  Please look for your child's report card online next Friday.  I am very proud of their accomplishments and the growth they've made. Here are some of the highlights from this past week. Students researched a Native American cultural region and created a poster to share with the class. In reading, we are discussing and reading about the power of our Sun and electricity. We will learn how to make a solar oven later next week.  Ask your child about how to use a compass or protractor.  We have been measuring and constructing angles and polygons with these special math tools.    Our class rocked the unit 3 social studies test.  Check your child's folder for his/her test. Students recently published their personal narratives.  Our narratives are full of great sensory details, flashbacks, and strong conclusions.  Narratives will be sent home at the end of next week. MAP Testing FAQ

You have probably heard a lot about MAP testing these past few weeks from your child.  Fifth graders have spent three weeks taking a series of tests during their computer lab and media time.   This post is dedicated to answering some common questions you may have about MAP.  As always, if you have any further questions please contact me.  Thanks. The difficulty of the test is adjusted to the student’s performance based on how well the student has answered questions.    MAP measures a student’s progress and growth.    It shows how your child has grown from one year to the next in mathematics, reading, language usage, and science skills.
